The Art of Adjudication
Please note that our submissions window for new Adjudicator applicants is currently closed until Autumn 2017. We will accept new applications from this time forwards. In the mean time, if you have any queries please contact Festivals House, or call on 01625 428297.
The purpose of our Adjudicators is to educate. A skilled Adjudicator must be able to inspire greater appreciation of the work being performed, both for the performer and audience alike.
By accepting only the highest quality Adjudicators onto our panel we aim to raise the standards of amateur performers attending our festivals. All performers should leave with a written / verbal assessment of their performance and a great sense of achievement.
How to join our panel of Adjudicators
This is by a rigorous selection process involving application, short-listing and then attendance at an Assessment Day. This may be followed by shadowing visits in the field and a final assessment. It is important to understand that we do not supply training and there is no guarantee that you will be successful.
Before commencing your application to become an adjudicator we recommend that you read the information sheet for your particular discipline.
Your application will be considerably strengthened if you are able to answer the majority of these questions in a positive way. Should you be selected for interview, many of these areas will be discussed with you in greater detail and you may be required to give examples of how you would deal with specific types of performance.
If the majority of your answers fall short of a positive response then you should consider whether this is the right time to apply for adjudicator membership. Perhaps you should find time to visit festivals and learn more about the work before doing so.
